Former Brentford captain Tony Craig bid a fond farewell to Bees fans at the weekend after securing a return to Millwall on Saturday.

The 30-year-old centre back switched to the League One Lions after he and the Bees' board agreed to terminate the remaining two years of a two-and-half-year contract he signed last season.

Craig, who slipped behined Harlee Dean and James Tarkowski in the defensive pecking order in the Championship last term, captained the Bees to League One promotion in 2014 and was captain in the League One play-off final the previous season.

The arrival of Yoann Barbet and record-signing Andreas Bjelland this summer meant the writing was on the wall for Craig, who returns to Millwall for a third spell.

"Very pleased to be heading back to Millwall were it all begun," he tweeted

"Looking forward to meeting the lads and getting started.

"I had a great three years at Brentford. Great memories that I will never forget.

"I would like to wish Brentford all the best for the future."

Brentford co-director of football Phil Giles added: "On behalf of everyone at Brentford, I'd like to thank Tony for everything he has done for Brentford over the last three years.

"He was a key part of the effort to establish Brentford as a Championship club.

"Although I personally didn't work with Tony for very long, I've heard several stories of how he went beyond the call of duty in order to play. He was a leader in the dressing room.

"The move to Millwall makes sense for all parties. We wish Tony every success at his new club and he will always be warmly welcomed back to Griffin Park in the future."
