A north London college has signed a contract with an NHS Trust to train 85 new apprentices.

The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London (CONEL) will take in the healthcare trainees on a 12-month course in a partnership with Whittington Health.

The first 10 apprentices were recruited earlier in September, and will be trained in clinical support, administration, management and IT services.

Rose Rees, a personal assistant at Whittington hospital, has signed up for the course.

The 41-year-old said: “I wanted to improve my skills to further my career in the NHS. This apprenticeship will hopefully give me the knowledge and experience to help me get there.”

Jackie Chapman, director of employability at CONEL, said: “This will create an excellent partnership as both of our organisations are focused on supporting the local community in improving their lives. Newly created apprenticeship positions will introduce new employees to the NHS, creating opportunities for many people to begin their career.”
