Witnesses to a fatal collision that closed a major southbound road in Enfield last night are being asked to come forward.

A man was killed after being hit by a lorry as he crossed the A10 Great Cambridge Road at the junction with Trinity Avenue on Wednesday, 10 February.

Police say they believe the man to be 59-years-old and that they know his identity, but will not publicly release his name yet as they have not informed his next of kin. A post-mortem will be held in due course.

They say officers were called at around 2.45pm to reports of a collision between a lorry and a man on the southbound carriageway of the A10.

Numerous police cars and an air ambulance also arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene at 3.12pm.

An eyewitness, who was driving by the scene of the accident, saw the air ambulance land nearby.

She said: “There was a tent up, and around 10 police cars were there. The ambulance landed outside Edmonton County School.”

Police are keen to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision – they say that despite it happening in the middle of the day, it was at a busy junction and that a large number of motorists will have seen what happened but have not yet contacted them.

The lorry driver stopped at the scene, and has not been arrested. Police say the driver is helping with their enquiries.

The A10 was closed southbound at Lincoln Road for around eight hours last night after the crash, before finally reopening fully at around 10pm.

It was the second collision on the Great Cambridge Road on Wednesday, after a lorry and a car crashed on the M25 between junctions 25 and 26 in the early morning.
