One male police constable, the driver, was taken to hospital with minor injuries and his colleague, another man, was not harmed.

The other driver, a 61-year-old female also escaped without injury.

Siobhan Wing, 27, from Chingford, was on her way to Homebase in Forest Road when she saw the aftermath.

"An officer at the scene told me the police car was turning right from Wood Street and the other car was on Forest Road.

"I asked if the policeman was OK as he got in the ambulance and he told me he was fine.

"The police car was a right off. The front bonnet and grill was completely off and all of the windows were smashed."
