Are you chained to your desk and can’t even break away to get outside and eat your lunch? If so, you’re in good company.

A survey has found half of London workers are choosing to dine ‘al desko’ by remaining at their desk to have lunch.

An even higher proportion of staff in the capital, 69 per cent, feel the weight of their workload is too great to justify a full hour-long lunch break.

A third of office workers believe taking their full lunch break is frowned upon by their company.

There are also signs time-pressed workers are turning to unhealthy and expensive options, with 15 per cent opting for a quick lunch such as a ready meal or takeaway.

And these choices are having an effect on workers’ wellbeing, with one in four beginning to feel unproductive if they are unable to take their lunch break, one in three feeling extra tired and a quarter feeling aggravated.

The survey was conducted by L’atelier des Chefs.
