By winning the prestigious award, she also replaced Princess Anne as the youngest woman to win the award in the show's 67-year history. As well as becoming the first female to pick up the prestigious prize since Anne's daughter, Zara Phillips, in 2006.

Following her myriad of spectacular achievements this year, she has been congratulated by many influential figures, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. 

In her victory speech, which was delivered at 1am from Abu Dhabi, Raducanu expressed her gratitude. 'To win, it's really pretty amazing for me,' she said. “I am really happy with this. I have always watched Sports Personality of the Year growing up, so I am really humbled to join the amazing past winners.”

When Lewis Hamilton won the SPOTY award in 2012, she was a sixth former at Newstead Wood school. During the awards ceremony, her nomination included a video paying tribute to her secondary school. Alan Blount, the headteacher of Newstead, has previously said that Emma is “a total inspiration to those at our school and elsewhere,” and that it was always known that she was heading for great things!”

Since her win at the Arthur Ashe stadium in September, Emma has become global brand ambassadors for many reputed brands, such as: Dior, Evian, and most recently, British Airways. 

It is safe to say that Emma Raducanu has had a remarkable 2021 after participating in Wimbledon and winning a legendary title in the US Open. She is now undertaking preparations for the Australian Open, which takes place in January 2022.
